FACTUAL EFFECTIVENESS OF PHYSIOTHERAPY MANAGEMENT FOR DIABETIC FOOT. A REVIEW OF LITERATURE.

Abstract

Objectives: A patients with diabetic foot may have non-healing ulcers, trophical changes, sensory & motor nerve dysfunctions due to associated axonal degeneration. Other general manifestations could be diminished relative peripheral blood supply, slothful muscle bustle, fatigability. This review is an attempt to enlighten the outcome of physiotherapy interventions for the effective treatment of diabetic foot.

Methods: A systematic review was performed from the database of available full studies & abstracts from Cochrane library, PubMed, Pedro databases, Embase, Amed, Mantis, Cinahl etc. Corroborative researches have been assessed & result has been and evaluated. Effect of various physiotherapy protocols have been weigh up, observed & cautiously evaluated to determine the outcome of physiotherapy interventions and its physiological effect that are being used clinically.

Results: Pulse galvanic electrical stimulation, motorized ankle dorsiflexion etc. have found effectual in wound healing & increasing perfusion. Substantial evidences have documented improvement in peripherally glucose uptake, glucose metabolism, vascularisation at tissue level & increase oxygen uptake. Improvement in psycho- physiological functions ultimately become stable & more or less revert the shape of the disease. In addition active life style which consistently may stimulus the limbic system causes psychotherapeutic benefits of exercises ultimately triggers off associated depression.

Conclusion: Along with appropriate medication, properly pursued physiotherapy protocols & utmost care condition of diabetic foot can be well moderated. At the same time it positively affects the various systems of body & brings out physiological and psychological settlement. However comprehensive and evidence based researches could focus on specific protocols and techniques specific in intensity & duration.
